I'm not quite sure that this isn't a bot spamming the blog, but since copywriting is at least tangentially relevant to book publishing, I'm clearing it. Anyone who knows how this connects, feel free to enlighten me.

Hi, Marion,
Thanks for your thoughts on Indie co-ops. What specific advice might you have for a group of Indie publishers seeking to develop a print and/or online sales catalog with central ordering but publisher shipping. How deep a discount do you think would be needed to attract business? Also, by what means might such a group systematically but reasonably establish quality control? Thanks again.

I actually disagree. I think local groups tend to backfire badly. They're fine for setting up signings, but as we all know, signings aren't really likely to pay for your time once you subtract the cost of goods sold from the mix.

But national groups, doing national publicity, and organized by subject/niche, those have some significant potential economies of scale. And that can make the thing much more cost-effective.

But your point is certainly a traditional perspective, and therefore, has a significant chance of being more accurate than mine.

Yes, we have experienced these issues as a small press. However, I think co-op marketing can work in the region where you live if you have local authors working together. Taking it onto a national level is the real trick.
